‘Proposal for the former Rietveld-Schröder House.’ 2024

A work made for the exhibition 'Breathing the Rietveld-Schröder House';
A series of posters inspired by Rietveld's great desire to realise social
housing. He did not succeed in this until the 1950s. The work also refers                                                                                                                                                                                       to  the development of the Netherlands' largest cities, where social
segregation is the highest in the country.

In 1961, Dutch sociologist Herman Milikowski wrote his PhD thesis,
presenting a new idea about social science. Milikowski opposed the
compulsory adaptation of the ‘lower stratum’ to the ‘upper stratum’ of
society, as if the latter had the patent on the ‘right way of life’.
Emancipation begins not within the terms of what others think you should
do, but on the basis of one's own culture, one's own way of life, to put it
more emphatically, on the basis of maladjustment.
